 IJSBSA History
The Personal Water Craft (PWC) sport is the largest growing of all marine sports. The concept, developed initially by Kawasaki, was to build a safe and fast marine vehicle that the average public could afford. Following the patent expiry, several international major engine manufacturers developed their own versions.
It was only a matter of time that competitive racing was introduced between both manufactures and individuals. Thus an international group of individuals and manufactures formed the IJSBA and developed the rules for safe and consistent racing. These rules form the basis for all PWC racing throughout the world.
Although not strongly promoted to date in New Zealand, the sport enjoys a large following and thereby media support in the United States, Asia and Europe. With some venues attracting crowds exceeding 100,000, PWC Racing is rapidly becoming a truly global sport.
